Some holiday shoppers will receive great cost savings Dec. 5-13 during The Gift Shop at Providence Center’s annual Light Up for Christmas Sale.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Gift Shop located inside Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.

Debbie Victor, manager of The Gift Shop, and her sales staff look forward to the Christmas sale each year. As in previous years The Gift Shop is stocked with items certain to please shoppers and delight gift recipients.

“Our customers always tell me they are extremely satisfied with what they find in The Gift Shop,” Debbie said.

The Light Up for Christmas Sale gets its name from the discount a customer randomly selects.

“First, a customer takes all of the items they want to purchase to the counter,” Debbie explained. Then, the customer will be asked to reach into the stocking to pull out a white, orange, red, green or blue bulb. The color of the bulb determines the percentage of the discount off the total purchase price. Discounts range from a special free gift for a white bulb and 10 to 40 percent for the remaining colorful bulbs, according to Debbie. “There are some exceptions,” she said, noting sales associates will provide that information.

Selections are sure to meet every pocketbook. “We have a nice price range,” Debbie said, “from dollar items on up.”

This year, The Gift Shop is featuring a wide selection of items to decorate the home for the holiday season. Customers may choose from plush snowmen and –women, boxed Christmas cards, ornaments and even Christmas-themed sweatshirts, including one with the words “Peace on Earth” and another featuring a Christmas tree front.

There are Advent wreathes, candles and meditative selections, along with angels, crucifixes and crosses. “We also have a lot of new jewelry that is spiritual in nature and angels,” Debbie said.

The Gift Shop at Providence Center also is home to one-of-a-kind Saint Mother Theodore Guerin merchandise, which includes statues, books, rosaries and medals. The items honor Saint Mother Theodore not only the eighth U.S. saint (and the first from Indiana) but the foundress of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods as well.

Unique to The Gift Shop is merchandise handmade by the Sisters of Providence. Among the items shoppers may choose from are baby quilts, kitchen towels and pillows. In addition, there are double-sided aprons handmade by the sisters, many of which are holiday-themed or representative of other seasons. Also available are handmade items made from the fiber of the Sisters of Providence famous alpaca herd at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice. There are Equal Exchange fairly traded coffees and teas, too.

Gift selections at The Gift Shop will help shoppers keep men, women and children in mind. “We do have nice selection of children’s books and toys,” Debbie noted. There also are books for adult readers on your shopping list.

An added perk is that gift wrapping is free for customers’ purchases. In addition, The Gift Shop can take care of mailing or shipping gifts to loved ones, Debbie said.
