Each summer, the Sisters of Providence host a radio broadcast from Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., that we call Sunday Brunch Live. The program is held during our fantastic Sunday Brunch, which allows visitors the opportunity to gather for a delicious meal while participating in the broadcast. The next Sunday Brunch Live will be on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stay tuned to this page for more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, enjoy this story about the 2009 Sunday Brunch Live.
A fabulous brunch, used book sale, remote radio broadcast, alpacas and more are features of the fun-filled Sunday Brunch Live scheduled (that was held) Aug. 2 in Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.
A highlight of the day’s event is a remote radio broadcast 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring Danny Wayne of The Valley (95.9-FM). The radio personality will provide a “play-by-play” of the many activities scheduled throughout the day, in addition to inviting some attendees to visit with him “live” on the radio.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy Sunday Brunch 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Dining Room in Providence Center. Various Sunday Brunch costs apply, except children age 5 and younger eat free. Sunday Brunch features bountiful breakfast offerings, fresh salads, made-to-order waffles and omelets, and a varied selection of lunch entrees to satisfy the heartiest of appetites. For more information about Sunday Brunch, go to www.ProvCenter.org.
Debbie Victor, manager of The Gift Shop at Providence Center, invites people to shop at the Sisters of Providence Sixth Annual Used Book Sale. The sale, which is Aug. 1-9, is being conducted in the Providence Center conference room. During Sunday Brunch Live, hours of the Used Book Sale are 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Gift Shop at Providence Center will be open during Sunday Brunch Live and offers a wide variety of unique items for shoppers of all ages.
Another great feature of Sunday Brunch Live is an opportunity for guests to take a self-guided tour of the sacred grounds of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods founded by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, who was canonized Aug. 15, 2006 as the eighth U.S. saint. Saint Mother Theodore’s shrine is in the historic Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods is also home to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and Our Lady of the Lourdes Grotto, in addition to the Heritage Museum. Another favorite stop among visitors is the Saint Anne Shell Chapel whose interior is completely decorated with shells gathered from the nearby Wabash River. In 1875, the present chapel was built to replace an original log structure. This new chapel was blessed July 25, 1876.
Visitors will also be directed to see the award-winning alpacas. White Violet Farm Alpacas, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, maintains one of the highest quality breeding herds in the Midwest on an organic/biodynamic farm.
Sunday Brunch Live includes door prizes, in addition to giveaways for as long as they last.
