Providence Associate Pat Stucke of Schererville, Ind., renewed her commitment at the home of her companion, Sister Lucy Nolan, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009. A gathering of several of Pat’s former parish members and ministry associates met at the home of Sister Lucy and her housemate, Sister Mary Frances Keusal, in Homewood, Ill. At Pat’s side was her husband, Glen.
Making this day extraordinarily special is that Pat and Glen will be leaving at the end of September for a two-year, three-month stint in Tanzania with the Peace Corps. For more than 40 years, Pat has ministered in education — middle school, high school and administration. When she retired, she was serving as the director of professional development for the Crete, Ill., school system. Glen is also retired and has spent much time as a volunteer with various organizations.
In the Peace Corps, Pat will teach secondary biology, and Glen will teach secondary math. But first the couple will have to complete what Pat calls “boot camp.” This entails three weeks of intensive training in culture, geography, protocol and an internship in a school system. When they pass, Pat and Glen will be sworn in and sent to a location in Tanzania yet to be determined.
Pat and Glen have three daughters. Sarah, a former Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal, resides in North Carolina. Amber is an artist living in California and Serena is a photographer in New York City. Amber and Serena are twins.
St. James Parish in Sauk Village, Ill., is the former parish of Pat and Glen.
