Our past in print

A Journey in Love, Mercy and Justice is just one of many publications sharing the story of the Congregation.

The Sisters of Providence are blessed with numerous journals and artifacts in the Archives Department that help to tell the story of the Congregation's past. Additionally, the Congregation has been blessed with sisters and staff members who have shared the story of the Congregation via photos, publications and other media.

The Archives Department, in conjunction with the Office of Congregational Advancement, is committed to sharing some of the treasures that have been created throughout the history of the Sisters of Providence. Here you can get to know the Congregation better by perusing some of our past publications.

• 1964 vocations leaflet: A leaflet used by vocations in 1964. (NEW!)

• A Guide to the Trees at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.: A booklet of the trees on the grounds of the Congregation and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

• A Journey in Love, Mercy and Justice: A pictorial history of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods celebrating 150 years of service among the people of God.

• Centenary of St. Anne (Shell) Chapel, 1876-1976: This tri-fold brochure celebrates the 100^th anniversary of the dedication of this chapel.

• Church of the Immaculate Conception: This small booklet shares the history of this sacred building. Printed in the late 1950s or 1960s, this booklet includes black-and-white photos.

• Church of the Immaculate Conception restoration: This small brochure was published in 1986. It lists the restoration costs and memorial gift opportunities for the restoration of the church.

• Diorama Memorial to Mother Theodore Guerin, Foundress: Centenary edition

• Events of the Century, 1840-1940: A small pamphlet published in celebration of the Congregation's 100th anniversary.

• Foley Hall: A Portrait: A tribute to Foley Hall published by the Communication Arts Department of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1989.

• Heritage Walks: Celebrating our Sesquicentennial, 1840-1990: This booklet was published in 1990 and features two walks highlighting the history of the Congregation and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

• Rhythms and Tension: This booklet, published in 1981, shares the stories of several sisters of a variety of ages and ministries.

• The Sisters of Providence in France and America: Historical Summary: This booklet marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Providence in Ruillé, France.

• The Story of YOU …: This small pamphlet was published by the Vocations Office of the Congregation in 1960.
