The Sisters of Providence have a rich history. From our foundation in 1840 to the present day, the Congregation has valued the letters, diaries and artifacts of our members. This attention to archiving our history allows us to share many detailed stories of our past.

The Congregation History section of the Web site explores our history through:

  • General superiors: general superiors bring unique talents and skills to the office. This feature gives a brief profile of each woman who has held this position;
  • Her-story: stories dug from the Sisters of Providence Archives and the memories of sisters;
  • Sacred places: explanations of important places in the lives of the Sisters of Providence; and
  • Tidbits: short stories about people and events that have shaped our lives.
  • Our past in print: past publications created by sisters and staff members of the Congregation
