This robin enjoys Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
A group of about seven volunteers participate in the birdhouse monitoring project at White Violet Center for Eco-Justice.
Volunteers are monitoring about 20 bluebird nest boxes at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and document what they observe — nest attempts, number of eggs, hatchlings and fledglings. They are discovering the secret world of cavity nesters.
By monitoring the breeding cycle of cavity-nesting birds, participants enjoy learning about the birds and science through hands-on activities.
Sister Jean Fuqua coordinates the program. She says the only four species that would nest in the boxes at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods are wrens, tree swallows, bluebirds and chickadees. Monitors have reported seeing all of these.
