The White Violet Center for Eco-Justice Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program has returned with 26 shares for the 2010 growing season.

We also have a new pick-up spot near Baesler's Market this year.

Shareholders can expect to get a variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs each week and honey as it becomes available. Share size will feed a small family of 4-6 people, or 2-3 veggie-loving adults.

Here is a partial list of crops to look forward to:

Strawberries, Asparagus, Lettuce, Spinach, Green Onions, Peas (Shell & Snow), Tomatoes, Cabbage, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Carrots, Dry Onions, Beets, Turnips, Green Beans, Sweet Corn, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Peppers.

Cost

Shares are $450 for 18 weeks, June-September. (This is the equivalent of $25 of produce each week.) With the addition of White Violet Center's high tunnel, some cool-weather crops may be available for purchase in October depending on weather conditions.

Three pick-up locations

Shareholders can pick up their basket of produce on Wednesday afternoons at White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a location at 19th and Ohio streets or Union Hospital beginning in June 2010.

All 2010 shares have been sold and we have a waiting list. Please contact us if you would like to be added to our 2011 mailing list.

Reasons to support our Community Supported Agriculture program:

  • Locally-grown foods are fresher and taste better
  • Organic growing methods used in our garden are in the spirit of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, foundress of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods
  • Establish a vital link between your food, the people who grew it and the land that nourished it

All share holders are asked to commit to this statement:

I understand that by becoming a shareholder of the Community Supported Agriculture initiative, I will share both the rewards and the risks of the growing season along with the other shareholders and the growers. I recognize that there is no guarantee of the exact amount I will receive each week. I agree to comply with all safety measures posted in the distribution area while on the property.
