Church of the Immaculate Conception

Can you believe it has been more than 100 hundred years since the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods was completed? One hundred years is a long time! It was finished in 1907 and it was renovated in 1986.

The church is used for daily worship by the Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College students, area neighbors and many visitors.

Vows in the Church of the Immaculate Conception
In 1950, Sisters of Providence profess final vows in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Sister Catherine Livers said what she remembers most is taking her final vows in the church. Each time she visits the church it brings back memories of that day. “The other times were nice, but there is something very special about taking final vows in this beautiful church. If I had five lives to live, I would live them all as a Sister of Providence,” she said with a smile.
