Yes, they are all dead! But the nine men who served as president of the United States from 1837 to 1865 led the country during tumultuous times. As the country grew in geographic size, the issue of slavery began to tear the nation apart. In this section, you will learn more about the issues that led to the Civil War.

Also in this section, you will learn a little about the all-too human side of presidents — like the president whose death was caused by eating too many cherries and pickled cucumbers!
