Providence Volunteer Ministry was a long-term lay volunteer ministry program for women and men that started in 1988. The program closed Aug. 31, 2010.
Thank you to all who gave service to Providence Volunteer Ministry and to those who provided sites for volunteers. We celebrate a program that has changed the lives of so many.
The Sisters of Providence General Council stated, “The decision is based both on current finances and challenges faced in regard to housing and other amenities offered to our volunteers. The decision in no way reflects any dissatisfaction with the quality of our past and present volunteer ministers, ministry site personnel, Sisters of Providence local communities who hosted volunteers or past and present program directors and support staff. Rather, it is the extraordinary goodness and capabilities of these persons that made this decision a wrenching one.”
